Environmental Policy and Background
Coast All has been a strong proponent of the benefits of coastal shipping to the environment for the past 15 years. So you can rest assured that our domestic transport
services will support your company's environmental initiatives. In fact, our core coastal service is primarily based on international liner services that are already
transiting the New Zealand coast. So in effect, adding your cargo to these ships have a negligible impact on your carbon footprint.
In support of this, recent studies have shown that emissions of carbon dioxide in grams per tonne/km were as follows:
road produced 123 grams per tonne/km and rail produced 23 grams per tonne/km whereas coastal shipping produced 14 grams per tonne/km. Therefore, there is a substantial
carbon benefit in using coastal services versus road and rail. However, we understand there is a need for rail and road services so it is always good business practice
to incorporate a coastal component into your distribution system.
To that extent Coast All has recently partnered with Freighthub which is aimed at creating higher
truck utilisation, that is, taking advantage of excess truck capacity already transiting near your area, providing you with lower freight costs due to the extra capacity available
and therefore promoting a cleaner environment, because that means 1 less truck needs to make a journey to your place of business, thus reducing road congestion and unnecessary fuel consumption.
